Overwolf Curseforge

Hi, this is a fresh install of Overwolf installed yesterday (7/23/2016), after rebooting my PC this morning I have noticed Overwolf was not open (as I disable it on startup) and now it does not launch at all. As such, there should also be a warning message if a player tries to launch with a 32-bit executable, with a link to whichever 64-bit java variant Overwolf wishes to endorse. The CurseForge launcher should be default always prioritise a 64-bit installation if the user hasn't set any preference (currently 32-bit Oracle is preferred over a 64 bit. In June 2020 Overwolf bought CurseForge from Twitch and Amazon. Overwolf is a software platform to help developers create extensions for video games. Some are game neutral, such as having a web browser or IM chat in an in-game overlay. Others are specific to certain games. Either way, Overwolf is the new home for CurseForge, and they’re working on making sure the experience is as enjoyable as they can. Today, they’ve released the beta for their CurseForge app, which they intend to have dedicated towards managing addons for players.

In a surprising move, Twitch has announced that they have sold CurseForge, the home of many game mods, including WoW's addon repository, to Overwolf for an undisclosed sum. With this change, Addon management will be leaving the Twitch Client in the near future, moving to a standalone Overwolf app.

Overwolf Team

As we move to onboard mods onto our platform, we're positioning Overwolf as the industry standard for building in-game creations.
OverwolfWhat will this mean for gamers?
CurseForge will transition out of the Twitch client and into a new dedicated desktop app on Overwolf. A dedicated CurseForge team of engineers inside Overwolf will be in charge of continuously improving the Curseforge app to be the best mod manager out there. We’re getting all the code from Twitch, so we’ll start with everything as is, and then gradually add new features and tools like global search and smart sync, based on the needs and interests of the community.
So is CurseForge going away?
Definitely not. CurseForge will remain a standalone brand, within the Overwolf family of apps. The Curseforge.com website will stay exactly the same, and the mod manager will leave the Twitch client and become a dedicated CurseForge app for PC and Mac.
Will the new CurseForge app include ads?
Yes, with an opt-out. We want to make modding a legit profession, and we want to find ways for modders to make a living. With 70–80% of ad revenue going to creators and distributed based on mod usage, we want to look into incorporating in-app ads in a way that is not intrusive. You might remember the ads on the old Curse client, before the Twitch acquisition, so we’re thinking about iterating on that experience. But, in parallel — for those who do not wish to support creators, we’re thinking about ways of opting out. Clearly, subscription will be one of these options, but we’re also thinking about an opt-out without payment. Eventually, as we’ve seen with gaming apps, we believe non-intrusive in-app ads will support mod authors and help them invest more time and effort in their creations. That said — you’ll never see an ad in-game, just in-app. You’re definitely not going to see any ads inside WoW addons or anything wonky like that.
Recently, Overwolf has been criticized heavily about its data collection on users. A couple of weeks ago, they announced options on their software to opt-out any data collection & analytics. Overwolf pledged to increase addon authors' monthly payments by at least 50% based on current earnings by 2022 using their subscription and ad revenue model, without disrupting other sources like Patreon.

We believe that creators who build awesome products used by gamers worldwide should be able to make a decent living off of their work. With that in mind we are pledging that mod authors will earn 50% more than what they’re making today by 2022. The current Author Rewards Program will remain unaffected during the transition, and in the future we’ll plug in additional monetization streams of which a large chunk (70–80%) will be shared with authors.
For players unhappy to download a new platform, it is important to highlight that you can manually download, install, and manage addons without using any 3rd party client like Twitch or Overwolf, by using CurseForge or WoWInterface sites. Creator platform Overwolf has acquired CurseForge, the biggest repository of mods for video games, from Amazon’s Twitch division. The move helps Overwolf expand from a platform for in-game apps for creators into helping authors of mods — or custom levels for games like Half-Life or StarCraft II — with a hub for mod tools for development and monetization.

Tel Aviv, Israel-based Overwolf created an overlay platform that enables developers to create game applications, modifications, or services that enhance the experience of today’s PC games. And it has built an open platform of game apps and in-game services. Overwolf’s mission is to generate value for every gamer in every game by empowering third-party creators and developers to enhance those games. It’s also helping people making money from playing or modifying games as part of what I call the Leisure Economy, where people make money playing games.

Why it matters

This acquisition means that Overwolf is doing for mod authors what they have been doing for in-game creators. It will provide these authors with the same support, infrastructure, and sometimes even financing. Ultimately, mod authors will now be able to earn a living doing what they love, and Overwolf is putting their money where their mouth is by pledging to pay CurseForge mod authors 50% more than what they are currently making by 2022, the company said.

As the world is suffering from record unemployment, it’s important that people make money from their passion for games. Overwolf is making the young profession of mod making more viable as a career to a community of creators who previously may only have been able to pursue it as a hobby. In the past 12 months, apps on Overwolf were used in over 1.92 billion game sessions, with top creators on Overwolf earning over $100,000 or over $1 million per year.

Overwolf provides hundreds of apps for popular PC and mobile games, such as real-time coaching services, analytics solutions, and video recording tools. The company already has 30,000 creators and a library of over 90,000 game mods and apps. Overwolf has 12 million monthly active users on the PC and mobile.

The CurseForge mod manager will transition away from the Twitch client and become a standalone desktop app as part of Overwolf’s catalog. Tools and services around building and uploading mods will remain unaffected, Overwolf CEO Uri Marchand said in an email. Marchand believes that in-game creators should be recognized and rewarded for what they do by making a fair living off their work.

Overwolf has raised $23 million to date from Marker, Intel Capital, and Liberty Media. Beginner typing lesson free download. In 2016, Twitch acquired the technology when it bought Curse, rebranded the app to the Twitch app, then sold Curse Media to Fandom. But the CurseForge mod installation tech didn’t get sold with that deal, and now Overwolf is taking it over.

Marchand said Overwolf is committed to making the gaming experience even more fun for gamers. What this acquisition means for gamers is that a dedicated CurseForge team of engineers inside Overwolf will be in charge of continuously improving the CurseForge app. Overwolf will start with everything as is, and then gradually add new features and tools like global search and smart sync, based on the needs and interests of the community.

CurseForge hosts third party content for a variety of games, the largest being Minecraft. It also has content for World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Kerbal Space Program, WildStar, Terraria, World of Tanks, Rift, Runes of Magic, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and others.
